4 Home Design Trends That Shouldn’t Make a Comeback

a home’s interior that’s being repainted

In this day and age, no two homes truly look the same – these spaces are a chance for us to show off our taste in style, no matter how modern or outdated it may be. But when it comes to design trends that might seem old, many of them can be effectively substituted for a fresh coat of interior paint! Here’s a closer look at four different home design trends that might’ve once been popular but can now be safely left far in the past.

1. All Whites & Grays

Even though white and gray are both considered timeless in the world of interior design, overloading your space with solely one or both shades might not work as well as you’d think. Patterns and colors, particularly those that evoke nature, aren’t just visually interesting; they’re also much more emotionally reassuring than white or gray.

2. Animal Prints

You probably know someone who had animal print pieces or patterns within their home at one point in time. However, as exciting and exotic as these cowhides, cheetah spots, zebra stripes, and leopard prints may feel, they often tend to come off as cheesy these days if you’re anywhere outside of a safari or hunting lounge.

3. Light Pastels

It’s hard to deny how happy some light pastel shades make us feel, and in truth, many of these colors haven’t completely gone out of style. Yet, these days, many homeowners tend to prefer bolder, more vibrant shades. Perhaps it has something to do with the recent pandemic; being inside all the time may have shifted our preferences toward bolder, happier colors.

4. Popcorn Ceilings/Textured Walls

These ceilings and walls used to be a very popular design choice since they were relatively low-cost and fairly easy to apply. However, they’re often found in older homes and buildings where asbestos insulation is present, meaning it can actually be a health hazard. While they did create some interesting textures, homeowners today prefer smooth, bolder painted surfaces.

In favor of all of these trends, you should consider the positive impact that a fresh coat of paint can have on the look and feel of your home. Homes need to be repainted every few years anyway, but more so, a refreshed appearance can also greatly boost your curbside value! Don’t hesitate to consult with a team of professionals for insight into navigating this process – as well as for the guarantee of a job well done!
