Interior painting can be a bit of a process – and while it’s undoubtedly exciting to see your home transform before your very eyes, some homeowners are hesitant to commit to interior painting due to concerns about the total timeline. However, if you only want to paint a single room, you’re in luck – the process can easily be carried out and completed in just one day! Here are three must-know tips to help you fast-track this process without compromising your beautiful results.
1. Gather All Supplies Beforehand
Believe it or not, painting involves a lot more than just the paint itself – many supplies are needed to ensure the job’s done correctly, not to mention several others that make the entire process considerably easier. Before the day of your project, acquire the following:
- Painter’s tape
- Different types/sizes of brushes and rollers
- Roller frames and covers
- Paint pans
- Flat-head screwdriver or paint can opener
- Lint-free cloths or paper towels
- Plastic or canvas drop cloths
- Paint clothes – an old pair of jeans and a T-shirt will work perfectly!
2. Don’t Skip the Prep
The day or night before you begin painting, you’ll want to make sure the room is totally ready. Move any furniture away from your walls and cover if necessary, and then throw down your drop cloths over the floor where you’ll be working. You’ll also need to remove artwork and other décor from your walls – attempting to paint around them will not end well. Don’t forget to remove their associated hooks, nails, and hangers. Wall cover plates for electrical outlets and light switches should also be unscrewed and temporarily stored.
Lastly, be sure you’ve repaired all damage to the walls beforehand, including chips, cracks, dents, and dings, and ensure that your walls are smooth and clean. You can take a damp paper towel and wipe the top of the baseboards and work around any other molding that you’re painting up to.
3. Save Plenty of Time for Cleanup
Whether you decide to paint yourself or you’ve opted to hire a team of professionals, you’ll want to ensure that at the end of the day, you have enough time to clean everything up. Once you’ve finished applying the final coat of paint, you can immediately begin – the paint will have plenty of time to dry, so don’t worry about that.
Clean up all painting supplies, rinse off and store your brushes and rollers, and either seal the lids back onto unfinished paint cans or toss them if they’re empty. Pick up your drop clothes, remove and throw away any lingering painter’s tape, replace your wall covers and light switches, and re-hang all of your art and décor. Your furniture can be moved last.
Though it might not seem feasible at first, with a lot of preparation and a little know-how, painting a room in one day is a manageable task. Of course, there’s no harm in turning to a team of professionals – you’ll know with certainty that they’ll be able to get the job done in a quick manner!
