3 Tips for Designing the Ultimate Home Office

a home office with modern décor

Whether your home office is a designated space for running your business, working remotely from home, attending online classes, or simply enjoying your favorite hobbies after a long day, this space is one where you shouldn’t hesitate to go all out when it comes to its design. The right coat of paint can work wonders for this – but there are also many other things you’ll want to keep in mind!! Here are three tips worth considering as you begin preparing to redesign and repaint your home office!

1. Pick a Paint Color That Works for You

This is one of the most exciting steps when it comes to interior design: selecting your paint color. However, since you’re working with a single room with a specific purpose, you’ll want to weigh your options carefully.

Certain colors, like navy and charcoal, are known for exuding strength and helping to stimulate focus. Other people prefer calming shades like botanical green, sea foam blue, or even off-white or a lighter shade of gray to perform their best. It’s mostly about personal preference here, but knowing the emotional/mental effects that certain colors have can help inform your decision.

2. Carefully Consider Your Lighting

You’ll also need to be mindful of the interplay between light and color; certain shades of paint can appear drastically different when exposed to natural, or even artificial, lighting.

This means that if you have windows in your office, as well as other sources of light like overhead lights, desk lamps, and wall scones, you’ll need to be extra mindful about your paint, as well as the positioning of the light sources. Natural light can be mitigated or redirected with curtains and blinds, whereas interior sources of light can usually be repositioned or dimmed, or the bulbs can be replaced. In any case, just make sure your light isn’t compromising your décor or your ability to remain productive.

3. Complementary Décor Is Key

While paint color and lighting are two of the biggest factors, you also shouldn’t neglect the small stuff, like décor and furnishings.

A comfy desk chair can go a long way, not just for your back and neck muscles, but also for complementing your paint. Likewise, there are all sorts of furnishings you can throw into the mix to enhance the space’s feel; potted plants (real or artificial), framed pictures and artwork, desk ornaments, or even additional furniture if you have the room for it.

At the end of the day, this is your home office, meaning you should include absolutely everything you want or need, and you shouldn’t shy away from painting it a color you love. Above all else, don’t make it feel like a bland office cubicle!
